Description for B&B:
Located between the medieval city of Carcassonne, Canal du Midi, and Black Mountain, Montolieu Book Village is the ideal destination for those seeking a cultural getaway in the heart of Cathar country. Nestled in the countryside, at the end of a road along the river, sits The Forge of Montolieu - a charming old forge and mill that was transformed into a magnificent mansion in the late nineteenth century. Surrounded by a park filled with ancient channels and hidden paths, the property boasts a stunning variety of vegetation.Owned by Charles and Laura Cowen, The Forge of Montolieu offers four spacious bedrooms, each showcasing the industrial history and "golden age" of the house. The two largest rooms, named the goddess and Madame Gazelle, feature a double and single bed respectively, with views of the river to the east and ginko biloba trees and cyclamen flowers to the west. Ourika's room, with two beds, overlooks a cascading waterfall beneath the house. Mr. Wolf's bedroom, boasting a king bed, offers breathtaking views of the majestic surrounding nature, with one of the oldest Douglas fir trees in Europe visible in the foreground. These first-floor rooms are serviced by two large bathrooms that provide ample space and overlook the river.
Guests of The Forge of Montolieu are treated to their own private room. Delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner can be enjoyed upon request, either at a beautiful wrought iron dining table in the spacious kitchen or outside when the weather permits.
For more information or to make a reservation, please contact Charles and Laura Cowen at La Forge - Hameau de France - 11170 Montolieu.
