Located in North Conway, New Hampshire, The Buttonwood Inn on Mt. Surprise is a charming country inn bed and breakfast known for its exceptional service, warm hospitality, and meticulous attention to detail. Nestled on over five acres of private land, just two miles from the village of North Conway, our inn offers a serene and rural setting while still being conveniently close to all the attractions.Housed in a beautifully restored 1820s farmhouse, our inn maintains its cozy country ambiance with its wide pine floors, antique furnishings, charming quilts, and lovely stenciling. Our innkeeper, Bill, is always delighted to assist you in planning your activities, provide valuable insights about the area, and share the best local tips to help you navigate your way around. Whether you prefer to relax with a good book in our peaceful inn, keep an eye out for wildlife such as deer, turkeys, moose, hawks, or hummingbirds, or partake in the exciting outdoor recreation and activities available in the Mt. Washington Valley, there is something for everyone.
After a day of adventures, unwind in front of one of our traditional wood-burning fireplaces in either our spacious living room or the cozy Mt. Surprise Room. Indulge in afternoon tea and homemade treats while enjoying the warmth and comfort of our inn. If you prefer the outdoors, you can choose to relax in one of our Adirondack chairs, basking in the sun or finding shade, or take a refreshing dip in our heated pool or soak in our open-air hot tub with breathtaking views of the mountains and forest during the day, or the twinkling stars at night. We would be delighted to assist you in making dinner plans at one of the many excellent restaurants in the area, offering a wide range of culinary delights from local delicacies to international cuisine, all in a casual or fine dining setting.

Directions
To get to the Inn from North Conway Village, turn east onto Kearsarge Street at the traffic light on Rt. 16. Drive for 1.5 miles until you reach a stop sign. Go straight across the intersection onto Mt. Surprise Road and continue up the road, bearing left, until you reach the Inn.
If you are coming from Boston, take I-95 North to Portsmouth, NH. Then, take Spaulding Tpk. North until it ends. From there, take Rt. 16 to North Conway. Alternatively, you can take Rt. 93N to Exit 23 (Rt 104E), then take Rt. 25E to Rt. 16N to North Conway.
If you want to bypass the Shopping District, follow the new North-South Road that connects Kearsarge Street with Route 302. You can also use MapQuest and enter the address 64 Mt. Surprise Road, Bartlett, NH 03838. The GPS coordinates for the Inn are 4404 38.39N and 71 07 10.07W, with an elevation of 700.
For those coming from New York City, take the NY thruway North (Major Deegan) to Rt. 287 East. Continue on Rt. 287 East to 684 North and then take I-84 East. From there, take I-90 (MA Tpk.) East to Rt. 290 North (Exit 10). Follow Rt. 290 North to I-495, then I-95, and finally follow the directions from Boston.
If you are traveling from Portland, Maine, take Route 302 West to North Conway. Then, you can either follow the directions to bypass the Shopping District or the directions from North Conway Village.
From Montreal, travel East to Sherbrooke and then head South on I-91. Follow the directions below after that.
If you are coming from the Northwest, take I-91 South to St. Johnsbury, VT. From there, take I-93 South to Littleton, NH. Continue on Rt. 302 East through Crawford Notch, where it will merge with Rt. 16 from the North in Glen. Keep going south on Route 302/16 and look for a highway sign for "The Buttonwood Inn - Hurricane Mt. Road" after approximately 3.3 miles. Take the SECOND left, continue for 0.3 miles, and turn left onto Hurricane Mt. Road. Go 1.2 miles and then turn left onto Mt. Surprise Road. Look for a black highway sign for The Buttonwood Inn pointing left and follow the road to the left. The road will turn into dirt and you will see the Inn's sign straight ahead with the driveway to the right of the sign.
If you are on I-93 in Lincoln, NH, during the summer (May to mid-November), take the Kancamagus Highway (Rt. 112) for approximately 24 miles. Then, turn left onto Bear Notch Road (this road is closed in the winter). Follow Bear Notch Rd. until you reach the blinking light in the center of Bartlett. Turn right at the light onto Rt. 302 East and follow the directions above from Glen. This route offers scenic views and avoids North Conway traffic. In the winter, take the Kancamagus Highway (Rt. 112) to the end in Conway at the intersection of Rt. 16. Follow the directions below to bypass North Conway's shopping district.
If you are coming from the South and want to bypass the Shopping District, take a left onto Washington St. at the first set of traffic lights in Conway when traveling on Rt. 16. After 1/2 mile, bear left at the fork onto West Side Rd. Continue on this road until it ends at a stop sign, then turn right onto River Road. When you reach the stop lights, continue straight through. At the stop sign in front of John Fuller school, turn right. At the next stop sign, turn left onto Mechanic Street. Finally, at the following stop sign, turn left onto Kearsarge Street. Now, follow the directions above from North Conway Village.
If you are arriving by air, the approximate travel times are as follows: 1.5 hours from Portland, ME, 2.5 hours from Manchester, NH, and 3 hours from Boston, MA.
